Vilification anti-hate rights

We are people of many cultures, many faiths, many identities and many differences. But sometimes we are targeted with hate because of who we are. Everyone should feel safe and feel that they belong in our state.  Respect doesn’t just happen. Respect comes when we all have clear boundaries to guide how we interact with each other.

For this reason, anti-hate laws have been strengthened in Victoria.

Fact sheet - explaining Victoria’s new anti-hate laws

Anti-vilification and anti-hate laws have been strengthened in Victoria. The reforms aim to ensure equal participation in public life by addressing the profound harm that hate causes when it targets people for parts of their identity. Everyone should live with dignity and feel safe in our state.
