Equal pay matters
Equal pay for work of equal or comparable value is a basic human right. Regardless of where we work – or our sex, gender, race, age, abilities or care-giving status – we are all entitled to be paid and treated fairly at work.
Our new educational materials will help small-to-medium enterprises understand equal pay concepts and achieve equal pay in their business.

Background
Launched one year after the release of our report, our educational materials support small-to-medium enterprises (organisations with 2-50 employees) to start their journey to embed equal pay.
Our report Equal pay matters: Achieving gender pay equality in small-to-medium enterprises showed that small-to-medium enterprises (SMEs) were in need of unique, targeted educational materials on the concept of gender pay equality.
Industrial Relations Victoria, supported by the Equal Workplaces Advisory Council, engaged the Commission to create these educational materials.
The educational materials will support SMEs to develop, adopt and drive leading practice around gender pay equality in a way that builds confidence levels, encourages curiosity and embeds life-long learning strategies.
Our Equal Pay education materials have been codesigned with SMEs and industry experts and are tailored to the unique characteristics of SMEs and drivers of pay inequality in their workplaces.
SMEs can learn at their own pace, with options to build deeper knowledge through the different formats:
- engaging and memorable videos that are accessible, informative and specific to a SME audience
- interactive activities for SMEs to test their knowledge on pay equality and receive practical takeaways
- concise online learning modules for deeper knowledge and practical guidance.
