Anti-racism race game show entertains and educates to reduce racism

Partnering with Cinespace, we have created a short film: a game show that test contestants on their knowledge of racism.

Our Reducing Racism hub has also been revamped with new resources to help Victorians understand their rights.

The Anti-Racism Race

The short film (<6 minutes) is set in a surrealist game show, where characters from different walks of life compete in a series of rounds on their knowledge of racism to win an anti-racist championship title.

The film is aimed at encouraging increased racism reporting as well as directing Victorians to our revamped Reducing Racism hub of rights information.

Victorian law protects people from discrimination or vilification on the basis of their race or religion. No one should be treated unfairly because of where they come from, how they look or the language they speak.

Light-hearted with tongue-firmly-in-cheek, the film is a blend of the game show-meets-reality TV show format, where the characters are put through their paces with questions and scenarios – there’s even an actual race. Characters are also interviewed throughout the progress of the game for their observations and thoughts.

The short film, produced with funding support from the Department of Families, Fairness and Housing, promotes the use of our Community Report Tool and our complaints and enquiries services.

New and expanded racism resources

Our Reducing Racism hub has been expanded and now includes a suite of resources including:

  • the Reporting Racism chatbot
  • translated factsheets
  • audio translations
  • ‘There’s No Place for Racism’ stakeholder kit
  • services directory.

The hub and its resources have been designed to support community members who experience racism to understand their rights, know the options available to report their experiences, and obtain help.

Video production partner

We are proud to have Cinespace as our video production partner and recognise the important work they do to support storytellers from First Nations peoples and culturally diverse and under-represented communities across Victoria.
