2014 Report on the operation of the Charter of Human Rights and Responsibilities – Jun 2015

The 2014 Report on the operation of the Charter of Human Rights and Responsibilities highlights that after eight years of operation, the use of the Charter has matured beyond simple compliance with the law.

The Charter is not only part of ‘everyday business’ for many public authorities, but drives important human rights initiatives to address systemic issues. In this way, it prompts organisations to take a proactive, rather than reactive, approach to their operations and the way they engage with the community.

We would like to thank everyone who contributed to this report, including people from state government departments and agencies, local governments, community organisations and courts and tribunals. We value your ongoing participation in the reporting process and look forward to working with you to build a community where every person values, understands and respects human rights and equal opportunity.
