Human Rights Week 2019: 9 to 15 December 2019

Human Rights Week is an annual celebration of the vital role that human rights play in our everday lives.

The week coincides with International Human Rights Day on 10 December each year, which marks the signing of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights by the United Nations General Assembly in 1948.

Community events

Across the week, organisations, community groups and individuals across Victoria recognise Human Rights Week with a wide range of activities. Some organisations host a morning tea or lunch for their staff, others might have a film screening or invite a guest speaker, and some host a workshop or training session to help their staff build their understanding of human rights.

Human Rights Oration

One of the most popular events during Human Rights Week is the annual Human Rights Oration. Each year, the Commission invites a leading thinker to share their perspective on human rights. The oration is a free public event and it’s a great opportunity to join the conversation about human rights.

Organise an event

Show your commitment to supporting human rights by listing your activity on our event calendar (coming soon). Not only will you be contributing to positive change, you just might inspire other Victorians to do the same!

To register your activity, email the Communications team with:

• the name and description of your event
• the name of your workplace or group
• the date and time of your activity
• whether it is an open or closed event
• an email address or telephone number to contact for more details.
