Kristen Hilton
Victorian Equal Opportunity and Human Rights Commissioner
Kristen commenced her role as Victoria’s Equal Opportunity and Human Rights Commissioner on 1 June 2016. Responsible for setting a high-impact policy agenda, Kristen leads the Commission and works with the board and leadership team to define and progress the organisation’s strategic objectives. She brings to the role extensive knowledge of current civil law and human rights issues and a deep understanding of the needs of marginalised and disadvantaged individuals.
Over the course of Kristen’s career, she has held leadership roles within some of the state’s more important legal organisations. At Victoria Legal Aid, she spent time as Executive Director of the Legal Practice and Civil Justice and Access areas. Earlier, she was the Executive Director of the Public Interest Law Clearing House (now Justice Connect) and practised law in the private sector.
Kristen holds a Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Laws from the University of Melbourne. She received a Churchill Fellowship in 2007 and was honoured as the Law Institute Community Lawyer of the Year in 2006.
