Catherine Dixon

Executive Director, Victorian Equal Opportunity and Human Rights Commission

Human rights and the prevention of discrimination have been consistent threads across Catherine’s 17-year career in legal, policy and management roles, across both the public and private sectors. As Executive Director at the Victorian Equal Opportunity and Human Rights Commission, Catherine oversees strategy and operations across our five branches.

Before joining the Commission, Catherine played a key role in shaping the human rights legal practice within the Victorian Government Solicitor’s Office, first as Special Counsel, Human Rights, and later as Managing Principal Solicitor, Human Rights. At the Department of Justice, she managed the Human Rights Unit, and she also fulfilled the role of Manager, Legal Policy and Services, within Aboriginal Affairs Victoria, part of the former Department for Victorian Communities.

Catherine holds Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Laws from the University of Sydney and a Master of Laws, specialising in human rights, from the University of Melbourne.

We pay our respects to their Elders past and present.

The Victorian Equal Opportunity and Human Rights Commission recognises the injustice resulting from the colonial invasion and occupation of First Peoples’ territories and the Yoorrook Justice Commission’s findings of genocide, crimes against humanity and denial of freedoms.
