Inquiry into the detention of Indonesian minors – Jun 2012

The Commission made a brief submission to the Senate Legal and Constitutional Affairs Committee Inquiry into the detention of Indonesian minors in Australia, examining the human rights implications of the pre-charge detention of individuals suspected of people smuggling. It focuses, in particular, on Australia’s obligations under international human rights law and the Charter of Rights and Responsibilities for Victorian authorities involved in the detention of Indonesian minors.
