The Victorian government is reviewing the State Disability Plan and Victorian Autism Plan. The Commission has recommended the plans further embed human rights, with the voices of people with disability placed at the heart of the plans. This will help ensure the rights to dignity, choice, participation and equality for all people with disability in Victoria.

The State Disability Plan is Victoria’s roadmap for making things fairer for people with disability. The plan guides where government can drive change for greater inclusion, accessibility and fairness.

Similarly, the Victorian Autism Plan aims to make sure Autistic people have more opportunities to take part in and contribute to our community.

The government is developing a new State Disability Plan and Victorian Autism Plan for 2027-31 to help make our community inclusive and accessible for everyone.

The next Disability and Autism Plans provide an opportunity to continue to improve the rights of people with disability and Autistic people in Victoria.

Victoria’s human rights framework provides clear tools to achieve this. This includes the Charter of Human Rights and Responsibilities Act 2006 and the Equal Opportunity Act 2010. 

\n

The Commission considers that embedding human rights in the next Disability and Autism Plans, including close, ongoing collaboration with people with disability, will help create a more inclusive, accessible and safe Victoria for people with disability.
