Workplace equality: contact officer essentials

Overview

This program equips Contact Officers with fundamental knowledge and skills to be a first point of contact in the workplace to provide confidential and impartial information to help their colleagues resolve workplace issues of unlawful discrimination, sexual harassment, bullying or victimisation. As such, they are an important part of an organisation’s risk management and equal opportunity compliance strategy.

Key learning objectives

Participants will:

  • consider standards of appropriate workplace behaviour under your organisation’s policies and the law
  • explore the purpose of the Contact Officer role, your organisation’s expectations of the role and the knowledge and skills required to fulfil it
  • explore the steps involved in handling complaints and the role of a Contact Officer in supporting this process
  • provide participants with an opportunity to practise the skills required to fulfil the role effectively
  • explore challenges as a Contact Officer and identify solutions.

Format

These interactive and experiential workshops focus on problem solving and reflective practice, to create an understanding of workplace behaviour standards and expectations, and to build staff capability and confidence to take an active role in building and maintaining a safe and respectful workplace. Our facilitators use a range of proven adult learning methods (recent case studies, relevant scenarios, small group discussions and activities) that relate to the workplace context.

Participants will also be introduced to a range of Commission frameworks and resources to support ongoing actions to comply with the law and create respectful workplace culture.
